The Varukers – Inferno Records – 1981

Protest And Survive / No Scapegoat

Soldier Boy / Never Again

Debut release on Inferno Records run by Tempest record shop in Birmingham, next release was by Dead Wretched which is also a slab of tip top pogo punk.

This band I know hardly anything about except they reminded me of Discharge at the time of purchasing this 7″ single (except for Soldier Boy, that sounded like Dead Wretched), and the vocalist had a mohican when I caught them performing live.

All the rest of the memories are now faded into some kind of UK82 haze in my brain somewhere.

Lazy journalism at its most frustrating. Sorry about that…off to bed!

Yeah remember seeing GBH play ‘Big Women’ at some hall in Dartford or Erith.

A big fat punkette got up on the stage and danced topless while GBH played the song.

Hordes of spotty little punks, skins and herberts gobbed at her throughout, many of them scoring direct hits on her breasts and belly, no doubt their intention. She didn’t bat an eyelid.

All the bouncers were open-mouthed with astonishment at this bizarre sight.

We made our own entertainment in those days.

Sorry to shatter your complacency and pull your little heads from the system’s cosy teat, but the truth is…the baby in the microwave ‘myth’? It’s true!! It happened to a couple who knew some bloke who worked with my sister’s boyfriend at the time. The dad later died after he jabbed himself on an AIDS-infected razorblade hidden behind an NF poster, I think the mum ordered a KFC meal to console herself, but found a rat’s head in the box.

Having said that, I do love urban myths and lies. My fave at the moment is the number of minor celebs claiming they had a hand in trashing the Blue Peter Garden. If they were all telling the truth, there would have been queues of kids stretching down the road to Shepherds Bush tube, waiting to get in and kill the fish. It’s become the new “I saw the Pistols at the Screen on the Green”. Nobody will ever discover the identity of the real culprits…

…cos it was me and a mate.

There were loads of ALF-related myths too, like the one about the London cell whose members got jobs at McDonalds, just so they could add their own excrement to the burger mix. Presumably nobody would have noticed any difference if it had been true. And the Mars Bars containing the spring-loaded flick knives (which had been dipped in AIDS-infected blood beforehand), I suppose that myth saved quite a few kids’ teeth in the long run.

An American woman called China Arnold microwaved her baby to death in 2007. She was sentenced a couple of months ago, it was quite widely reported in the press.

Good McDonalds myth: their parent company in the US supposedly donated money to the IRA. This myth seems to have been believed mainly by squaddies and some coppers, a few nuts still repeat it as fact on the ‘net.

Yeah, vaguely remember the McD/IRA one…

Surely the most pathetic myth ever is the Marlboro one? How you get 3 ‘K’s on the box (you don’t unless you want to wank around making shapes with the flip top) and how it says ‘OROBL JEW’ if you turn it upside down (it doesn’t, it says ‘OJOQL JEW’)

I remember that someone from Class War went to Hampstead but got eaten by one of the alligators that used to roam the sewers there. Still, – what about The Man On The Motorbike? He was great, the only real class warrior in the country! Used to drive around Britain on a motorbike, causing mayhem. He started the Brixton Riots and the Miners’ Strike too.

Yes, I remember the Man on The Motorbike. He was one of the ‘outside agitators’ who must have sparked off hundreds of riots and disturbances over the years – at least as far back as the ‘Captain Swing’ rural riots of the 1830ies. No motorbikes then, he was a ‘stranger on a horse’. Must be getting on a bit now though. Hang on, does any one know how old Ian Bone really is?

Re sweary records in the mainstream, I’ll never forget the day my friend Barney bought the new (at the time) Ian Dury ‘New Boots and Panties’ LP and played it for the first time round at my house. My mum and her friend were sitting in the garden with her young (about 12 -13ish) daughters relaxing, chatting and enjoying the summer sun, with the windows wide open. All was fine until ‘Plaistow Patricia’ with its spoken intro….

Suddenly it all went quiet in the garden, although nothing was ever said about it later…

I’m just disgusted that none of you so-called ‘radicals’ have the guts to concede that proud, progressive Haider was murdered by the same demented Mossad clique who snuffed out strong, brave Ian Stewart with the old ZOG ‘snap-off-in-yer-palm’ gearbox trick. Oh, and the Boxing Day ‘tsunami’ was an Israeli torpedo – conducted as a test-run for the ‘spectacular’ in New Orleans a year later.

I remember reading a headline in the tabloids about one of the later Brixton Riots about an ‘anarchist petrol bomber’ an agitator who came into the area etc etc. Same old bollocks. I presumed he was a mate of ‘motorbike man’
Turned out it was all true, the bloke was a mate. And it had happened almost exactly as the papers reported. Uncanny.
In the world of false conciousness we beleive what we want.
