Dead Wretched – Inferno Records – 1982

No Hope For The Wretched / Time To Die

No Justice / Recession

The second release from Inferno Records c/o Tempest Records in Birmingham. A little more mid paced and melodic than The Varukers single below, with the fabulously named Bill Idiot on vocal duties…Again I know nothing of this band, but do remember playing the single a fair amount in 1982 so can not be too bad.

The third release on this label was by Drongos For Europe, and was uploaded on this site way back in November 2007.

Thought they deserved a comment, at least for the great title.

I played bass for these guys in the very early days. I left the band a few months before the release of this. I remember at the time being gutted for leaving too soon.
Dirty Des and me used to travel to a house in Aston, Birmingham to rehearse and Des only had margarine tubs to hit, at the time!
From memory this EP went straight in at number one in the UK indie charts and I still have the cut-out of that chart somewhere.

“only had margarine tubs to hit” – that’s awesome 🙂

I think I have a couple of singles by the band somewhere….

Got these records and used to see the guys up town back in the day, saw them play a few times too mainly at the Fighting Cocks in Moseley or Digbeth Civic hall.
You can see these guys again at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool in August-see you there 🙂

They released one other 7″ “Convicted”/”Infiltrator” in a similar vein – not quite as catchy as “No Hope For Anyone” which is their classic, but still good. A rough practice tape/live tape has appeared with more stuff – all rough but good UK82 if you can cope with terrible sound quality. They split up before they could do an album. Looking forward to them on Saturday at Rebellion – hope they dont fuck it up like Uproar last year!
A word of warning – I put a gig on a few years ago with a band called Sister Automatic featuring ex-Wretched members but sounding quite different. Halfway through one of them said “This is No Hope For The Wretched”…Cue cheers “Only joking!” and played something completely different!!
