Sex Gang Children – Illuminated Records 1982

Into The Abyss

Deiche

Another Kill Your Pet Puppy favored band, this time a band that included Dave Roberts who was around several of the house’s that the Puppies resided in free of charge! Andi the vocalist I think was something to do with The Straps  who were around the same scene in the late 1970’s as Crisis and The Pack (all the mentioned bands have material uploaded on this site). Featured in Vague and KYPP, and all the weekly music papers a fair amount, this first 7″ single sold well, and the band managed several TV performances. The LP ‘Song And Legend’ from 1983 is a must have, unfortunately it will not be uploaded here because of it’s current availability. Pretty intense live act to boot.

    Nice one…
Only saw them once (with Play Dead in April 1983) unfortunately…

The story about the brown on the dusty floor from Bob Short’s article is rather bleak!

Do any of you ‘elder statesmen’ have the Panic Buttons ‘News of the Day’ 7″?

There’s some interesting ‘horses mouth’ information on The Straps here:

An interesting nexus of characters (Sadie Frost and Liz Hurley indeed!)

I saw them play with The Damned (at Birmingham Odeon in 1980) and actually enjoyed them more than The Damned…

If you look in the downloads guide, found at the top right hand part of the menus on this site, you’ll find the Sex Gang Children’s first release, which was on cassette only. That is very good.

I saw Panic Button live once with andi on vocals. I also saw andi live solo before that (James St squat gig).

Most of Panic Button left to become Sex Gang, so who was left to make the Panic Button ‘News Of The Day’ 7″? Do you own this Nic?

There’s also Straps stuff on here, a band that Val Puppy liked very much.

With a bit of digging I’m sure Andi has a site explaining all of this…if I post it on here at Puppy Central there will be many to say Andi has got it wrong (like poor Kirk and his Pack memories).

I’ll see what I can do. This may involve phone calls, e-mails, drinking absinthe in Soho drinking dens till 5am. Or worse. But for truth, and you, I shall attempt it!

fantastic live band – upstairs at the clarendon summer 82, with a skeleton breathing fire. shame they split too soon.
