My entire Media Fire account has been suspended as there have been three separate complaints lodged to Media Fire against five separate links uploaded onto this site. I counterclaimed the first two complaints from the first two separate companies immediately as they came to my attention over the last two months. They are both bogus claims. Media Fire did not return feedback, either positively or negatively, to my original counter claim notification for those two complaints during the last two months. As of today Media Fire has suspended my account on the production of a third separate company complaining. I have of course written to Media Fire this morning to try and get the situation sorted out and I hope that a positive reply will come from them and that all the material on KYPP will again be downloadable to the browsers.

April 9, 2012 at 11:13 amHopefuly this letter to Media Fire will get a promising reply.
The first two suspensions (29/02/12) for files something0001 and something0002 were in error as I explained in the original counter claim return email. Degban LTD were spammed at that time and the company found out in the morning that 100,000s of bogus claims had been sent through to your server. I know this as I telephoned the London telephone number on the original email and spoke to the manager of the company who had just flown in from the USA to sort out the problem at his London office. He was very apologetic as if you notice the bulk of the original two complaint emails are full of nothing but XXX hardcore porn sites. I wrote all this out on the counter claim and received no reply.
The third email I got sent (14/03/12) regarding file JAMS0001 is also a bogus claim from Twentieth Century Fox as I know the artist who released the 12” and even employed his son at my work. He allowed me to place this one sided 12” record up on my blog and has no dealings with TCF. I wrote all this out on the counter claim and received no reply.
The fourth and fifth complaint (09/04/12) for files danielledax0001 and danielledax0002 come from a company specialising in cartoon design – Funimation. I feel that this company does not hold rights over the material on my blog. At this point in time I have not sent a counter claim as the previous three attempts I HAVE RECEIVED NO REPLY positive or negative. I will counter claim in good time no doubt to get the material back up on my blog.
Are you basing your decision on suspending my account on the complaints of these three companies. All of which have nothing to do with the property rights of the material on my blog? The first complaint Degban LTD as I have stated in counter claim (and again above) was a spamming exercise by persons unknown trying to hurt THAT SPECIFIC COMPANY by sending 100,000s of bogus claims out, some of which affected mediafire. That’s what the manager told me on the telephone.
Please reply to my concerns as now due to your company suspending my account my browsers cannot access material that they could have done before.
Is there any other reason that my whole account has been suspended other than these three companies incorrect complaints? If so I would like to know them as then I could try to put any problems right!
Please let me know if you need any further information to get this problem sorted.
Thank you.
Vince
April 9, 2012 at 1:24 pmsorry to hear this also happened to you. thanks for providing further info as i now understand swhy ome other blogs i visit got their MF account deleted for very dumb reasons.
would be curious to know who are those hackers responsible for those false complains…!
let’s hope you’ll succeed into getting your account back but i got big doubt about that! they never cared to give you an answer the last three time, why this one would change something?????

Google ‘mediafire suspended account’ and there’s a lot of blogs been hit through March.
Interestingly one of the bogus claims is from a movie maker, 20th Century Fox; are they deliberatly targeting us little guys to make some sort of point?
I wonder how many of the 100,000 plus spams via Degban have closed down blogs sites like ours?

April 9, 2012 at 2:34 pmHow absolutely bloody infuriating. The KYPP archives are a truly unique resource containing material which would otherwise be lost. In particular, material stored on magnetic tape (live and studio recordings) is fragile and the quality decays with time. Without being preserved via the KYPP archives, a significant part of the history of the seventies/ eighties alternative culture will be lost.

April 9, 2012 at 2:53 pmThe comedian Dave Gorman also recently had some trouble with Degban – he blogged about it here :- http://gormano.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/oh-flickr-youve-been-degbanned.html

April 9, 2012 at 7:24 pmDoes the Internet Archive have a snapshot of the KYPP site?
http://archive.org/index.php
Not exactly independent DIY but could be a workaround if you can’t get a sensible host.

April 9, 2012 at 9:34 pmCarol- I have tried that route and it leads to this page
http://liveweb.archive.org/http://www.mediafire.com/?lwmy1nltagt
and does not give access to music files.
gerard
April 10, 2012 at 12:51 amIt wouldn’t… the mp3 files are hosted on mediafire and the web archive is only hosting the files on kypp (a separate site)
If mediafire goes down or the links can’t be resuscitated, it’s only the music downloads that will be lost, not all the comments / pages etc

April 10, 2012 at 11:21 amshite news mick//my account is still active but my internet provider is preventing me from uploading anything new, a lot of other bloggers are having the same problem!! at present i’m using sendspace, tho i’m not sure for how long this will last. cheers for all the great posts & here’s hoping we find a way round it. DH. xx

April 10, 2012 at 12:39 pmmaybe the best solution is upload all recordings there:
http://archive.org/details/etree
http://archive.org/details/audio
the only drawback, if i can call that this way, is that they need to get the artist agrement to see the recordings shared there (but i don’t think this will be a problem for the punk posts….)
and maybe we’ll be lucky to see all that have been posted in here be share in a lossless format in order to get the ultimate quality out of those great old tapes 🙂

April 10, 2012 at 5:22 pmMediafire suspended my account/deleted all my files as well, twice even. Yes, I was stupid enough to re-up everything. Also bogus claims. Guess they’re really scared/on edge now. I’m now using http://www.uploadmirrors.com, seems like a decent alternative (from there things get uploaded to a number of different sites)… Anyways, good luck with your blog, have found some nice gems here. Would suck to see them gone.

April 10, 2012 at 8:51 pmSorted for now at least! Phew…
Dear Mick,
Thank you for your thorough explanation with regard to the files in question. After carefully reviewing your account and the notices filed against it, the suspension has been lifted. Additionally, the files that were previously removed have been re-instated. Mediafire is legally bound to remove any material that is reported through the proper DMCA procedure without prejudice, however upon review, it appears these reports were filed in error.
If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
Thank you for choosing Mediafire.
Best Regards,
Jodi

April 11, 2012 at 9:15 pmMedia Fire just lifted the suspension dan i, so all audio links are back to the way they were pre being suspended. None of the claims were legit, all were bogus. Some details in my first message on this post, also Media Fire response admitted they were at fault on my second message on this post. Cheers for all the support. Sorry to read that other blogs were not so lucky regarding this kind of Media Fire trip up.
