KYPP: Update

This is being written on 11/01/08, a few months since this site was unleashed.

We’ve had some great feedback from people about it, which is great and helps keep us warm at night.

The reason it was set up was because a few of us were getting confused by the punk books coming out which seemed to ignore everything but the music. Whereas to us the music was something that happened in the background of what else was happening. We’d go to gigs to meet up with other people, and often things happened without bands or music at all.

This site was set up to create a space to discuss the relevant ‘anarcho-punk’ time (1979-1985 anybody?) without the music getting in the way.

Ironically the links/downloads part of this site has become a first-stop at this site due to the amazing music being offered for free in there. Unbelievable stuff, every day another treasure and it’s all thanks to Penguin Puppy – who is managing to do all that single-handed. You may notice the improvement in the posts in the last few months. Penguin by his own admission started originally to upload separate tracks from the single or cassette, so the product actually had something like ten posts for one cassette by the same artist! Since those early uploading days, Penguin is now filling one post with the complete cassette, single or LP putting as much info on as possible including links to other relevant websites. Penguin has learned his ‘craft’ now and the overall look of the posts have matured rather excellently.

I hope you are all enjoying it, and can download it with no problems. At some point someone will find out what we’re up to and then…who knows what will happen. But for the moment fill your boots. And do let me know via the ‘contact’ bit if you have any problems.

What is good about that section of the site as well is that the music is bringing forth good memories and discussion in the comments.

The comments are something I thought was important when setting up the site – and to make that happen a lot of the site is actually a blog (or two) gaffa-taped together.

The downside to this is the main criticism of the site – it’s hard to navigate and it’s easy to get booted out by closing a link. It happens to me too, for the moment I thinks it’s all part of the atmosphere – like being in an old anarcho-squat gig in a church – who know’s what is where and what’s going on? And where does this door lead?…..oh!

Give us time and we could make the place more proper like. But don’t hold your breath…

Photograph comments:

We cannot replicate myspace comments under the photos though. So the photos are all in photobucket.

Oh yes, another thing that seems to be happening is ’spam’ comments are appearing for viagra, penis extensions and stuff. I’m deleting them as I see them (mainly in the post 86 bit – which is another blog) but a few may slip through. Please don’t think we are encouraging them or it’s advertising.

There is also talk of a book about all of this.

Heady times.

Love and anarchy,

Tony Puppy
