Chelsea – Step Forward Records 1977

Right To Work

The Loner

Fine band, a band that actually got much better with age, a statement that anyone who has owned or heard the material from 1979-80 would no doubt agree with. The first LP simply called ‘Chelsea’ also on Step Forward is a magnificent peice of plastic and well worth getting hold off from wherever you can. Ditto the singles compilation ‘Alternative Hits’, also on Step Forward Records.

Started life as L.S.D. performing at the Coum Transmissions event ‘Prostitution’ at the I.C.A. in October 1976, then quickly renamed Chelsea. Three of the four members then left to form Generation X who were to become massive, and I must remember to put some Generation X up on this site.

Early signings, and in fact, ending up as long term signings (as a few of the other bands all got signed up with other labels) with Step Forward. This record was Chelsea’s debut and Step Forwards second release. It is a real blast, and this band should not be ignored as they were a real treasure up to about 1983 at least. I know nothing of the band after this time, I do remember Gene October running around the ‘Intrepid Fox’ pub opposite the old ‘Marquee’ venue a fair few times though, sometimes running after me, bless!

Apologies for the quality of my record sleeve, looks like it had a run in with a washing machine and lost.
