Psychic TV – Temple Records 1984

Unclean

Mirrors

Blistering first release for Temple Records, Genesis P-Orridge’s own imprint created after mixing it up with the major labels in 1981 and 1982 for two Psychic TV LP’s ‘Force The Hand Of Chance’ followed by ‘Dreams Less Sweet’ and the 7″ and 12″single ‘Just Drifting’. This debut release by Psychic TV on there own label is unbelievably good, please take some advice, play Mirrors (the B-side) first then Unclean. Be patient, for the end of Mirrors, is actually the beginning of Unclean…then whack on Unclean and you have a full twenty odd minutes of fun between the two sides. Temple Records continued to release material from all kinds of strange and wonderful artists. On the Psychic TV side though, must have records I would say would be this 12″, Pagan Day pic disc LP, New York Scum Haters LP and Mouth Of The Night pic disc LP.

Please spare a thought for Genesis who recently lost his much loved partner and PTV3 band member Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge after a short illness.

A really nice record – melancholy pianos presenting the ‘pastoral’ side of the TG/PTV/Coil axis, followed by an Industrial inflected minimal groove blending the VU influence with the oncoming Acid boom…

RIP to Lady Jaye and condolences to Genesis…

I think PTV have been unjustly overlooked in many ways – primarily because of the Temple trappings which alienated many people (although I personally find all of that ‘business’ interesting)…which is a real shame…

Incidentally on a PTV-related note: I have been asked to give a concert performance at an art gallery in New York in May on a bill with Genesis P (the day before it, I’m also supposed to give a lecture and take part in a discussion with Malcolm McClaren!)…
so I’m looking forward to that – as long as the consulate will give me a visa!
    🙂

hi i feel ptv never get the credit they deserve and its frustrating record shops no longer stock ptv music or dvds. ive loved them for years and met genesis years ago at a gig. he/she was lovely when they left britain at the same time i went through personal crap too.weve just got the internet so its great lookin at thee ptv stuff i have the psychic cross tattooed on arm only mates know wot it is. if they became too well known maybe that would restrict them anyways. i saw ptv3 a few years ago and it was fantasic playing roman p and other amazing old and new stuff. it was a better more personal gig than at the royal festi hall i hope genesis shines forever and plays the uk again very soon. rave in paradise lady jaye.

My fav PTV gig was one they played in London Fields.
It was some little communty thing with all these stalls selling cup cakes
    and having raffles etc.
They came on and did “Jack the tab” It was a real tight set.. Brill

And after PTV at London Fields performance everyone went down the Hackney Empire for African Headcharge and other ONU Sound artists…then after all of that myself went down to my little brothers gig in a field outside London till the early morning. Three gigs in about 16 hours, those were the days!

I just wanted to mention that Unclean is a different MP3. The wrong one I think, mix up?

Thanks for letting us know D.F, it is now sorted out with the correct track. It occurred when all the files had to be re-entered after changing hosting sites during the middle of last year.

Excellent, thanks, I’ve been craving a good quality MP3 of it since I saw the incredible video for it on youtube. Anyone who hasn’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out.
