Zounds

Not sure what motives this cassette was released under, sounds like an advert for lots of post punk artists, perhaps sent to record shops so that the owners could get interested in stocking up on the likes of Eyeless In Gaza, Laura Logic, Lemon Kittens, This Heat vinyl. Or perhaps sold from record shops (like mine was) to entice the punter in buying more material from said bands.

Mixing up general chat with snippets of music, this cassette gives the impression of listening to a Radio 4 sunday afternoon show, but without the aid of super smart editing or even decent sound levels from talk to music.

What is really annoying is that some of the music snippets are just that, snippets…would have preferred a couple of minutes of each track and less artists, oh well, at least the cardboard mailer the cassette comes in, is well D.I.Y. and looks pretty cool.

Stuck Zounds on seperate just because I fancied it.

Just uploaded this cassette for the obscurity value really…normal service will resume as soon as…the next post!

Indebted to Mark ‘Harry’ Harris for lending me a copy of the Morrocci King! November cassette which is now ready for upload below

God, I’d never even heard of this. A bit of googling revealed this background, c/o an interview with Jon Wozencroft here:

Roundabout then, by a strange series of co-incidental meetings in a very short space of time, I met Mike (Harding) who was running a small music publishing company in the West End. It turned out that he had been at the same University, but I had barely known him there. We bumped into each other at the Moonlight Club in West Hampstead. He said “I’m doing this” and I said “I’m planning that”, so he said why don’t you come by and we’ll see what happens. Mike had been working with a designer called Garry Mouat (who worked for Assorted Images, Malcolm Garrett’s company), and it turned out that Garry lived just up the road from my parents’ house in Barnet. I was full of all this punk/Kandinsky/Dada stuff which Garry was also well into. Anyway, Mike and Garry also knew this bloke Bob Pearce who was running a pirate radio station called “Greenwich Free Sound” or something (incidentally, later to broadcast the first Hafler Trio recording); he was also doing this indie cassette magazine called “Morrocci Klung” – this, we must recall, was the time of SFX and the “C-30 C-60 C-90 Go”! So we thought, all the rest is shit, cassettes are a great, underdeveloped medium, because you can’t see what you’re getting, unlike a record where you can see how many tracks there are on it, and roughly how long they will last.

Cheers Penguin. The first part of this (Academy One to Joseph Garret) is displaying as an “invalid or deleted file.” Any chance of reposting?

Good work Pengy…It was one of the elusive ‘Tapezines’ which came out at that time (early 80’s) – a magazine on cassette (like the F.O. Wreckords tapezine and the tapezines put out by Dick of The Subhumans)…There’s info on the 3 editions on Discogs…
