A record with no artistic pretensions what so ever, more like, do bag loads of speed, get some booze in and have a laugh with the boys and see what comes out! No doubt various Not Sensibles and Fall members may have helped this recording get underway. The track Gloria I think has the ghost of Stirling Morrison playing a VU guitar line through it, and Senegal is certainly not Jeff Buckley but is great never the less.
John The Postman was infamous for hi-jacking the mic during early punk gigs (indeed the first ever punk gigs as we know them now outside London) in Manchester’s Lesser Free Trade Hall and Electric Circus and no doubt any other music venue supporting punk music of 1976. After a while he actually went from stealing the mic to actually being invited to perform in his own right, and of course some nutter paid for him to go into a studio for at least two LP’s in the late 1970’s. This being the second LP. The first LP I do not own, but would like to, is called ‘Purile’.

perry boys,i thought this was only a term regarding a cult of mancunian casual football hooligan types,didnt think it would be heard down in that london.
they were a regular menace to us young punky people,we even took to coming into manchester very early am on saturdays for records etc,it got that bad,i think the air up here has a funny effect on some folk.

March 2, 2008 at 2:14 amPlenty of time Manchester hooli’s have been down in London John. Believe me they were spreading the word outside Manchester. Tottenham used to have proper battles with them. That’s how I know the name and thankfully have not heard it, like I say, for 25 + years! Gutted about the Arse drawing today. Wanted AV to hang on…THFC were a waste of time.

March 2, 2008 at 2:24 amone of my earliest memories on the concourse at the scoreboard end ,old trafford,(section for away fans) was seeing a few hundred thfc fans cause a right old rumpus,police horses,baton chatges etc and a great deal of noise and chaos.
all quite amusing to a 12 year old

March 2, 2008 at 12:19 pmBut is it big and clever like taking drugs John? Should not really condone hooli action really. Still THFC used to have the best firm in London, well above the happy Hammers and Chelsea. MUFC hooli’s were massively hardcore down here (as in shops being steamed through).

Not really like ‘Come Sunday’, but a great, abrasive, jangling, scraping, completely out of tune guitar sound

about the Armed Force 7″. i’ve got a copy with empty labels and no cover. is this a test press or am i just missing the cover? i remember seeing one which had just a white cover with black letters but i can’t remember anything about the label.

April 18, 2008 at 8:24 amMy copy had the fold-over paper sleeve (with the text in black Letraset letters) and blank white labels, so it sounds like your copy may have lost the cover(?), Marijn…
I wish I knew where my copy had gone – one of those mystery records that isn’t lent out or damaged, but just evaporates into thin air!

if you can find the cover its quite a collectors item these days,i saw it recentley going for £30 ,on vinyl on the net website.
