The Cravats – Small Wonder Records – 1980

Still / In Your Eyes / Welcome / Pressure Sellers / One In A Thousand / X.M.P. / All Around The Corner / Ceasing To Be

Gordon / Live For Now / Tears On My Machine / The Hole / All On Standby / Tripex Zone

Marvellous stuff from this under rated band from  Redditch near Birmingham. Debut LP recorded in 1980 and released on the equally fine Small Wonder Records imprint. Great great great…

    Great, great stuff…
There’s something really simple but captivating about their song structures…

    Remember The Very Things?…

    Yeah, get it up Penguin…
I remember a great gig by them at the Sensateria (a Birmingham psychedelic club) in 1985: full-on heavy bass combined with the psychedelic lightshow…nice…

Nice upload Pengers! Both The Cravats and The Very Things made some quality tunes and as John says were brilliant live. Remember picking up a few of their releases at Small Wonder and regularly saw the The Shend at the shop chatting to Pete, can’t think why but Shend reminded me of the character from the film ‘Eraserhead!’

Wrote to them once and was sent a manic scrawl and loads of pics and stuff from Disneyland – I wonder if he got copyright on his name? 😉

PS. Note the backward Small Wonder Records image on the wall behind Shend on the album cover, I still remember their stylish plastic bags with the logo on, sad but true!

OH YES! still trying to get my hands on this LP. A friend’s band remarkably sounds very much like them, I dont’t think they’ve ever heard the cravats.
