Some quaint and sometimes bitter sweet melodies from the hands of The Television Personalities, the band on this LP had a line up of Dan Treacy, Ed Ball and Mark Sheppard AKA Empire. This is the debut LP for the band and the only LP released on Rough Trade, as the TVP’s shortly after this release created their own imprint ‘Whaam’ to release further material during the early 1980’s.
An old acquaintance of mine, Mark Flunder who took the photograph above of Dan Treacy, was playing bass for the TVP’s from the following year, during 1982. Mark went onto form countless bands including The McTells, Cee Cee Beaumont and Sportique, all of these bands are well worth a listen. Notably it was Mark who released the 7″ single by punk band Onslaught which can be found on this site if you search for it.
Also worth searching for are a couple of early 7″ singles by TVP’s which are uploaded onto this site. Please note that you should write in Television Personalities not TVP’s into the search function.

Dan Treacy has had some hard times for quite a while, so I hope it’s getting better for him…
