God Told Me To Do It…but did I listen?

God Told Me To Do It.
Saw them twice, once at Redvers Road Wood Green and once at Gossips Soho. I was one of the ‘dregs of punk rock civilization’ that Richard North mentions in his review! But to be fair it was probably the Hackney Hell Crew, and assorted hangers on, who to a (unwashed) man turned up in force to celebrate the Royal Wedding (Andrew and Fergie) that the snipe was aimed at.
Hopefully not me anyway!
The band were fun, chaotic but musically a bit of a shambles. I’m sure that was the point.
The flyers and posters on the other hand are legendary and the best thing about the band.
The stunts that the members of the band were involved with, are also legendary.
My press articles, flyers and posters are all here on this post.
If anyone has the ‘Psychic TV Are Crap’ flyer or poster (shown on one of the news articles) then please leave a comment as I would love to chat and perhaps discuss a high res scan, or perhaps if you feel generous, the original flyer to add to my collection!
Photographs live at the Arts Centre Redvers Road Wood Green unknown photographer. Let me know who it was and I will credit you!

Music mostly by Crass, radio collage and mix including the Thatchergate tapes by David Tibet

Simon, got a few of those tapes, if you want me to upload the decent quality ones on here send them to me. Get in touch on penguin / mob or all the madmen myspace for address details. I am willing to convert them to CDR for you but it will take time. I have five tapes from Pavlik and one from Mark Palmer to do, which will not be on this site. So in the end that means 6 x 90 minute tapes uploaded = 540 minutes (nine hours) for personal use (not for the benifit of the public). Like I say I do not mind doing them in time, but I would rather put 540 minutes (9 hours) of tapes / records / energy into uploading material onto this site so punters can enjoy it rather than just do personal stuff. You have 13 tapes that would mean a minimum of 13 hours to upload then transfer. Again I must stress I do not mind doing them for the people named above and for you, and they are in very safe hands, but just dont hassle me if you dont get them back the next week! As you know I work all day and get back about 20.00 every night, then straight onto uploading (for the site first). A labour of love…a hatching in late March will not help my time. Will get Pavs and Marks done before that time certainly…Plus got to do one for Andy Martin I just remembered…Oh well, back to work…out in an hour to watch the Kings of Europe perform down the WORLD FAMOUS WHITE HART LANE…go go go…then a quick upload later when I return…

here a link to some more GTMTDI stuff that I just found, other than the GTMTDI t-shirts which I miraculously still have. I don’t posses a single photo, tape, record, review or anything else from those days. When I was figuring what I was going to take with me to America none of that stuff was at the top of the list. This link has more of Animal’s classic artwork and some press stuff.

    Chill Pengs,
I was only really asking if you wanted any of them, literally maybe 1 or 2 that I wouldn’t mind on CDR, but really not that bovvered! I’ll see if they are actually worth salvaging first, as they’ve have been lugged here, there and everywhere. Have got a bit obsessive recently with hoarding music and sometimes just have to have things for the sake of it, sad I know! Oh and your labour of love is very much appreciated… but if you spent less time at White Fart Lane you’d get a lot more done!! Ouch, I felt that from here…

Cool link John de beast, shame about your gear, but you always travelled light! Not like some of us who carted all sorts of crap around and still live out of boxes after all these years, the earache I get you wouldn’t believe! ;-D

Simon – just said this on Scotch Punk thread but

“Vorsprung durch technik as we say in bonnie Jockland. Downloaded a Free Sound Recorder. Used a double ended jack plug (ouch) to connect headphones output of vinyl record player to microphone input of computer.

Faffed around but ended up with an MP3 of nearly all of the Mod Cons ‘Buildings of the 70s’ (see above). Saved it, e-mailed it to myself (2 minutes to upload , 2 minutes to down load for 3 mins 23 secs music) – and there it was, hissing and crackling away just like the actual record had done about half an hour before.”

In other words armed with a double ended jack plug lead (plus a old fashioned big to modern small jack plug converter for old hi-fi systems) a downloaded Free Sound Recorder (googled on phrase and found several -one I got was here

    http://www.sound-recorder.biz/free_sound_recorder.html

you can use the microphone input socket on computer to record vinyl/ tapes etc as mp3 files – and convert to CDR etc.

I also got a trial of a mixing thingy so you can clean up the sound, but haven’t tried it yet.

Just rambling from the drinkies really…

I was trying to say “I have all kinds of this sort of thing that I could keep sending over until the end of time” but it came out in some kind of addled reference to the pub mentioned in ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’…

My apologies (Booze gets me over-excited)…

Woodgeen art centre was an old carpet warehouse squated by me, allan, bill and animal, we then squatted the kardboard box and then the ballet skool, there was loads of squatters in woodgreen, we use to have gigs a couple of times a week, Doom and Deviated instinct were most likley to have been playing the kardboard box as we seem to have played with them loads when i was in gutrot.

    🙂

I was trying to think of the name of Gutrot the other week, but couldn’t bring it back into my head – it kept getting muddled up with other words: you did some good noise…

I still see various Doom and D.I. chaps on a regular basis – singer of D.I. is now a university lecturer, and singer of Doom is now a DJ on Kerrang radio…

Just to clarify a comment by Penguin. I did indeed work for the Jobcentre, not because my dole was cut but I needed some money.
I saved a lot (easy to do whilst squatting and working) and went on an extended 2 year round the world trip. And very nice it was too !!
