Four Minute Warning / Kill Your Baby!!
First single by Chaos UK, another Bristol based band. Started off in 1979 alongside (in 1980) Disorder (post below) and eventually adapted their sound to a more ‘Disorderly’ direction towards the mid 1980’s.
I remember (!) actually falling asleep at a Chaos UK gig held at Ipswich in the PA speaker cabinet that was blasting the racket out into the hall. Woke up in a pool of cider (I assume!).
Sorry I know little of the history of this band, so google it if you wish!

January 13, 2008 at 7:27 pmI love this as well! Brutalist guitar lines, cro-magnon beat, angry bawling – all the good ingredients…
This line-up of the group recorded 2 EP’s, after which some of the band made an LP (which sounds like it was recorded on a glue trip), before briefly splitting in late 1983…
They reformed in late 1984 when Gabba (Seats Of Piss – from Nottingham) joined and made an album on Children of the Revolution records, and have continued in various incarnations since then, splitting up and then reforming periodically…
Again, I saw Chaos UK play a lot of times, and also played on the same bill as them many times…
Pengy – where and who else played at the Chaos UK gig in Ipswich? I may have been there (as we used to go down to see the people from Extreme Noise terror)…
Footage of Chaos UK in Manchester from late 1982 (with original line-up who made this single)…

Disorder and Amebix in a Bristol squat…

(Best moment for me : the slogans ‘Dead Punks on Meathooks’ and ‘Rotting Flesh in Hiroshima’ on the back of Boobs’ jacket 😉 )
I don’t know if anyone has posted this film clip on the site yet…
It’s an Australian TV piece about Punk squatters in Islington in 1983…
It may be of interest as there is a nice Mob rendition at one point…

Theres some great pictures of them on this webpage where they model a more ‘1970’s’style punk look…

January 13, 2008 at 8:37 pmThanks Nic, I got confused looking up Chaos UK – information did not compute so googled on Chaos UK summer of hate and found found the same web you give. Was going to say same name different band, but you beat me to it.
My Chaos UK were Londoners, hence recording in Shepherds Bush not Bristol.

January 13, 2008 at 8:57 pmThe Detour Records site is handy, was able to look up another of my old singles and found it.
The Mental: God for a day/18 //Kill the Bill / Off the Rails
A short lived Punk band that came from the Melksham / Trowbridge area of Wiltshire. They released one self financed 4-Track EP on their own Kamikaze Pig Records label in 1979. Shortly afterwards the band split and the singer ‘Dick’ went onto to form the ‘Sub-Humans’ with members of another local Punk band ‘The Stupid Humans’ who also had just split. With this new band the music was less basic Punk Rock and took on a more Anarcho feel.

January 13, 2008 at 10:52 pmYes, Al – the Detour site is fascinating: I’ve popped into there fairly regularly (I bought some of their ‘Bored Teenagers’ releases a few years back)…
They have an interesting selection of fanzine covers on there too (including magazines like Black Dwarf, Cobalt Hate, Toxic Grafity and Rapid Eye Movement – and R&T, of course!)…
I keep hoping they will scan and upload the actual content of their copies of the old Birmingham / Telford area fanzines like Smart Verbal, Scrawl and Guttersnipe (which I used to buy when I was a nipper)…
Funnily enough, I had The Mental EP on at work last week as a prelude to the Stupid Humans demos (which are my favourite recordings from the Melksham/Trowbridge/Warminster axis)…
“Off the Rails” is my pop-pick from the EP…

January 13, 2008 at 11:34 pmGreat Stuff! That Bored Teenagers site has my interview with Stirling punk band The fakes here – http://www.detour-records.co.uk/FAKES.htm – their ‘production’ single is an absolute CLASSIC!! And, by good fortune I found my original copy of the practive tape of them from 1979 that I released when I was going my ‘zine. jamzy (their bass player – who went on to record acid stuff under the name ‘Ege bam yasi’) was the next door neighbour of the house I grew up in. he used to baby-sit for me when my folks were out and my first introduction to punk was when he used to bring all his new records round to listen to on our record player. including, as I recall the Sex Pistols ‘spunk’ bootleg (this was before ‘never mind the bollocks’ came out) as my old dear went mental when she saw it 🙂

March 23, 2011 at 9:23 pmI recall Chaos (bassist?) getting his arse whipped with a three row pyramid studded belt the morning after the Ipswich gig following a kangaroo court
for farting within 4 feet of someone (dont ask)!
