Inspired by a comment by Nic recently about the rising cost of D.I.Y. records, here is\u00a0one record of the genre\u00a0which is as rare as Arsenal Football Club winning trophies in a season.<\/p>\n
This record, which I hope will be worth a few bob when I eventually pass this fad stage (thirty years this fad has lasted) of collecting and listening to vinyl records, is from the Italian alternative magazine Red Ronnies Bazar, a magazine that covered many great bands and translated all interviews into English and Italian. Half a page to each language. I have the huge Throbbing Gristle magazine that came with TG \u2018Mission Is Terminated\u2019 LP on Nice Records. Alas I have not got the issue (number 4) that this record came with.<\/p>\n
Stunning versions of \u2018Alternatives\u2019 and \u2018Fellow Sufferer\u2019 live somewhere, no doubt recorded\u00a0in 1978 when the Alternative TV name was still active.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Recorded during the summer of \u201978, this album captures Alternative TV when they were at the forefront of the post-punk English new wave.The band were formed by Mark Perry who was editor of punk\u2019s first fanzine, the infamous Sniffin\u2019 Glue (recently compiled into a book by Sanctuary). They quickly rose to become one of the most important punk\/new wave bands in Britain during 1977-79. This CD features the band at the height of their creative power and many of their most popular live numbers are included, such as \u2018Love Lies Limp\u2019 and \u2018Viva La Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll\u2019.<\/p>\n
A version of this CD was originally released in 1993 as a limited edition which quickly sold out. With the recent discovery of the original tapes by Italian journalist Red Ronnie, Overground and Mark Perry couldn\u2019t resist the opportunity to re-master and re-package the CD, adding extra tracks, re-design the artwork and expand the sleeve notes.<\/p>\n
It was Ronnie who recorded Alternative TV at the Meanwhile Gardens Free Festival in August 1978. 3 of the tracks \u2013 \u2018Alternatives\u2019, \u2018Fellow Sufferer\u2019 and \u2018Graves Of Deluxe Green\u2019 \u2013 were released by Ronnie on a 7\u2033 EP on the Nice label, given away free with Red Ronnie\u2019s fanzine, Bazar, in 1980. Alternative TV\u2019s performance at Meanwhile Gardens captures the band during the period of transition between \u2018The Image Has Cracked\u2019 and \u2018Vibing Up The Senile Man\u2019. Drummer, Chris Bennett had been sacked a month before the gig and it was the first time the \u2018Vibing\u2019 material was played live, although \u2018Release The Natives\u2019 and \u2018The Good Missionary\u2019 were premiered the previous month on the John Peel show.
