Ranking Toyan, Tottenham resident for many years with several other ex-pat\u00a0Jamaican\u00a0DJ’s, U Brown and Ranking Dread (yes THAT Ranking Dread) and ex home to the UK Sound System Champions 1977, 1978\u00a0and 1980 the mighty Fatman Sound System. Toyan came up on the Killamanjaro Sound System in Jamaica. I witnessed the sound system in JA a couple of times and they were top notch, well after Toyan and his generation had gone to pastures new it must be stated.<\/p>\n

The reason I have posted this record onto KYPP is for Gooner’s Tim and Simon to enjoy. The John McLean ‘Lovers Rock’ style tune advertising the Starliner Sound System is decent enoug but it is when the DJ cut starts that I pick up some further interest in the track.<\/p>\n

Toyan mentions Capital Radio’s 1980’s reggae heavyweight DJ David Rodigan and the equally fine Radio London reggae DJ Tony Williams a few times. Personally what gets\u00a0me going is Toyan’s excitement of his beloved team Tottenham Hotspur scoring the winning goal against ‘Rangers’ (QPR) who ‘lose control’ in the ‘F.A final’ at ‘Wembley Stadium’.<\/p>\n

Pretty damn good, I was there that day in 1982, and I got a Toyan DJ\u00a0cut\u00a0commenting on\u00a0that very same\u00a0day! Cool huh?<\/p>\n

Toyan was shot dead in\u00a01991, that incident was not football related.<\/p>\n
