Zos Kia – All The Madmen Records – 1984 / 1986

Original 7″ version 1984

Rape

Thank You

12″ re-release version 1986

Rape / Thank You

Black Action / The Absolute

Originally released as a 7″ single in 1984 by KYPP’s very own Alistair, who was running All The Madmen Records in those days. The re-release was organised by the new man in charge at All The Madmen Records, Rob Challice, and was released on 12″ in 1986 with two new unreleased Zos Kia tracks added.

Kill Your Pet Puppy ally and friend Min is the vocalist on ‘Rape’, a true account of an attack that she had suffered in Australia. An extremely harrowing performance from Min on this track, not easy listening whatsoever.

John Gosling is on vocal duties for ‘Thank You’ and ‘Black Action’. Alex Ferguson and Genesis P-Orridge, both Psychic TV members at the time were involved in the recording and engineering of the original two tracks that were released in 1984.

John Gosling also begun to work within the Psychic TV organisation from 1984 to 1986, performing live and in the studio. Zos Kia released a couple more 12″ singles on Psychic TV’s Temple Records, one was released in 1985 and one in 1987.

Those tracks can be found via the search function and they are both well worth listening to.

Yeah, being a part of a cult must be fun as one wag posted under a Psychic TV video on You Tube. This represents a real high point in this really fertile period for all kinds of edgy experiments with fear. As an American poet of ample proportions once said : “To make something dangerous with style is what I call art” . Something lacking sadly from todays noise-experimental-whatever you want to call it scene. Anecdotal… Past : I bought this when it came out, a pocket money purchase, nestled alongside my other ‘illicit’ purchaes such as ‘Too Drunk To Fuck’ 12″ and Stiff Little Fingers first LP (with the track ‘White Noise’) that had to be hidden from my hysterical polyester screeching Puritan mother but as I later forgave her as I learned, as a theology student at University, fragmentation and dissonance have a special propinquity to the Christian theology of the cross. Present : one of the good things about not residing in the UK is I get to play this on daytime terrestrial radio.

You are going to play this track on daytime radio Dr? Pray tell us more, what radio station, what part of the world?…Or have I massively misunderstood the line above?

Good on you if you are planning to anyway…

My guess is that Dr. Koper lives in the USA. I’ll never forget going there years ago, getting in a car at 11am, turning on the radio & hearing GBH. (College radio). Very refreshing.

I live abroad too & in Barcelona there are some good pirate radio stations. They’ve been going for years & are a good listen. eg. http://www.radiobronka.info/escuchar

I bought this when it came out. Disturbing, without a doubt.

“Hamburger Lady” by PTV really makes my hair stand on end though.

Sussed it out Insane, right click on the good doctors name and his blog (like magic) will appear. He has some good playlists out there, but I think it is internet radio as opposed to FM or AM. still cool though, spread the word Dr, keep up the good work.
BTW If I heard the band GBH coming out of the radio whilst driving I think I would deliberately drive of a cliff or into the nearest wall just to ease my pain!

    Indeed!

Sid Is Dead off said album is a classic (being a tribute to Sid James and not Vicious) “No more pocket money for Sid’s kids”

With its dark and haunting sounds, listening to ‘Rape’ was an at times deeply shocking experience, Min’s words and screams quite unnerving and not at all easy to listen to. Many thanks for posting this release.
