Are you getting viewing problems on KYPP with Internet Explorer?

We’ve had a couple of reports of people experiencing problems using this site recently with Internet Explorer.

Could you let us know what your experiences are if you’re using that browser? Just leave a comment and it will give us an idea of what to do about it. We’re just as keen to know if it’s all working OK for you as if there’s a problem.

What we’d like to know:

1. What version of IE you’re using?

2. Does it work OK with the site?

3. If not, what error messages are you getting?

4. Roughly how long has this been going on?

Many thanks!

    2. Seems to now, but not for the last few days.
    3. I repeated text box saying something like “this page is running a script which may make your browser run slow: do you want to stop running the script? Y/N” but press Y or N only made the text box come back a few seconds later.
    4. I think since Friday?

In fact it is still happening – I got to the page of this latest blog entry via my rss reader. But it is still occuring on the main /news page.

I have taken a screenshot of the error message. It reads:

“Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive”

Cheers John, Trunt reported the same problem and written below is what I found on 8th September and reported to Gerard on 9th September. At the moment I am posting and viewing on KYPP via Safari which works fine. Do you get the END PROGRAM message at all after trying to get out of the system? If so could you follow what I wrote and let us know what the ‘to view technical information about the error report’ stated in your case. Thanks. Until this is fixed I am using Safari but Mozilla Firefox is working fine with KYPP according to Gerard. Easy to upload a new browser if you are desperate!
    My original message below.

I run two scans Kerpersky and normal windows scan. The normal window scan found one faulty file to do with realplayer I think and deleted that part of realplayer (not the whole program obviously). So sorted that out.

I deleted all cookies and temp internet files

The page KYPP/news page still would not load properly and the END PROGRAM message came up again. This time after I choose to end the program I decided to look at the option ‘to see what data this error report contains’.

Choose ‘to view technical information about the error report’

    This message came up in ‘Error Report Contents’;

    C:DOCUME~1MickeyLOCALS~1TempWER9248.dir00iexplore.exe.mdmp

    C:DOCUME~1MickeyLOCALS~1TempWER9248.dir00appcompat.txt

I right clicked on START menu and choose explore and found exactly those two files there.

I then deleted those files in recycling box and then tried KYPP again. Still the same message and error report, I then deleted the recycling box thinking that may be the problem. Still the same on KYPP/news. So I gave up and decided to look in the morning as turning off the computer may help.

Any way obviously this message to you means it does not work! I still get a ‘script running’ message and eventually the END PROGRAM message with that same message in the Error Report Contents.

Don’t really know what to do! I have checked to see if WER9248.dir00iexplore.exe.mdmp and the other one have reappeared in TEMP folder under MICKEY and they have not.

I can google a KYPP page and for instance Mob Hoxton I can go in fine – Then from that correctly loaded page which does not hang the computer I choose HOME it goes back to my little problem. I see comments going on so obviously the site may be fine for other users. I am on Windows IE8 at the moment. because I have XP system I do not think I can upgrade to IE9 or further.

Thanks Pengy – I’m fine reading KYPP at home (where I use firefox etc) but work is locked to IE8. So it’s not a huge problem for me personally, although I am annoyed that I have to use Explorer here!

I never get to the “end program” message because the “Script” message keeps coming back until I can close the browser window.

It’s not my field but I would hazard a guess that there is something running on the main page that IE8 doesn’t like, maybe an embedded video or the script running the comments or calendar in the sidebar or somesuch.

Also, I can view the site fine when I turn on “Compatability View”.

(Click “Tools” at the top of the screen and select “Compatability View”)

    Thanks from the response John.

I’ll be carrying out some tests over the next few days to see what’s up (apart from IE existing, that is).

Any other responses still very welcome

Do I dare to state that I am now running KYPP away from Safari and back on IE8 and that Gerard seems to have sorted the problem out. Fingers crossed now that all internet browsers now work fine. Incidently John, my IE8 before the weirdness was set up for Compatability View for KYPP and it still ended up not working for these few days. Thanks for all your input anyway people. Seems IE now is good with KYPP.

Just checked KYPP using IE 8 and it seems fine. I usually use Chrome and sometimes Mozilla Firefox and have had no problems with them.

Yep, all sorted my end, great to be back, with no problems. Cheers Tony, Penguin, thought it was my computer at first and after trying everything I knew to get it sorted (which aint much) thought it might be the site. Thanks

Dunno if it works or not ‘cos i never use the piece of shit! I’d recommend Firefox for everone esp. for its security add ons which Google Chrome doesn’t seem to have. Top Site btw!!!

Don’t know what’s causing it, but every time I look at your home page it’s stuck on July 9th. From the “viewing problems” page I can see there have been loads of posts since then, but apart from the extracts shown I can’t get to them. Any suggestions?

Dave. Gerard changed the server company around that date. Maybe that has something to do with it? Gerard?

I’m on the case – not sure why this is happening, with me it happens in Safari but is fine in Firefox

The blue text tends to run over borders and margins – if that makes sense. It’s been happening for about a week I think.

Not much can be done about those links I’m afraid – unless Penguin starts using tinyurl or somesuch for long links
