A two piece band from Peterborough in Cambridgeshire that supplied this tape to Chris Low, by recording the whole of the set at the time, in a garage, for Chris’s particular tape (BASF C60 for anyone interested!).

All the tapes sent in to the band were recorded in this way, so the tapes themselves were all different in order of tracks and the quality of the ‘performance’. Of course this made each tape completely individual.

The band performed no gigs (bystanders in their garage performances aside) in any venues to any paying punker punters. The band had only one track released on record. That record was the first ‘Bullshit Detector’ compilation LP on Crass Records, released in 1980 with other early tracks by Amebix, Synix,  and The Eratics amongst a host of others.

Very fond memories of the APF Brigade, my particular copy of Live Brigade had them doing a false start on one song, they laugh and say “oops sorry we fucked it up!” before statring again – that ws my favourite bit! I think they did 5 or 6 cassette albums in the end, the one I liked best was their acoustic ‘concept album’ of environmental songs, it was relatively unusual in those days (early 80s) to focus so much on eco-issues apart from the odd song amongst all the others about war, Thatcher, Reagun, vivisection, etc…

Graham, was that ‘concept album’ “the Earth Soaked It Up”? Foolishly , I think I sold copies of all their other tapes on Ebay years ago and omitted to make myself copies, though I did keep copies of their fanzine (“A New Body” ?) yes, APF stuff was great and they always used to write very nice letters too. Seemed very sincere and genuine people and I hope they’re still happy and well whatever they’re doing.

Yes I used to write to them regularly, great letters and thoughts as you say – always friendly and accomodating… still have all the cassette tapes (5 or 6??) and all the old ‘A New Body’ fanzines… they also did another (one-off?) zine called ‘Words Worth Saying’ I think…
Without digging around in my old collection, I believe they also did a tape album called ‘God The Tape’!!
….altogether now – “The crow lives nowhere..!”

Thanks Andy for putting this straight, dunno why the cassette was in with the Live Brigade cover, but you know, 25 years on, maybe covers get lost and seperated. Will cut and paste the track listing up.

25 years on my mind becomes separated as well, things i think i remember well are mixed up with other stuff lol.
sick society was recorded live but only the once, unlike live brigade which we did most nights for a fairly long period of time, which i cant remember off hand, i will have a look around see if i have an original cover, though i wont hold my breath, i will digitize it myself at some point and design a new cover, and stick it on the apf myspace.
    cheers m8
